I keep getting prompted to enter form 8839, the qualified adoptive child worksheet, but I have no adopted children. The form is not available for me to delete on tax tool

I just spoke with Jacqueline at Turbo Tax customer service and we went through the forms together to find why I kept getting this form to appear even after deleting it. Turns out that when I took a photo of the W2 it had mistakenly read it and assigned a box T adoption credit! Once I trashed that box the form stopped coming back!

The post above mine was a life-saver.  I was about to pull my hair out trying to delete this form.  I had the same problem with photo importing my wife's W-2.  Once I deleted the T code from box 12 on her W-2, I was able to go back to the child adoption credit and delete the untitled entry, rerun the scan and successfully received no errors.  Thank you for sharing your post.

I just went through this same thing and spoke to a rep that was able to get onto my screen. We went back to the W2 portion and even though I had taken a photo and the system input the W2 info, in box 12b, that is where it went wacky and put the code for adoptive child instead of retirement.

So go into your W2 and review the 12b box to ensure it has the right code in it.

Hope this helps! How frustrating that was!

Since TurboTax does not create the data object that is being imported (a W-2 in this case), TurboTax can't guarantee that the import process won't fail. Sometimes, either the creator of the W-2 makes a mistake or enters some gibberish that TurboTax doesn't ignore.

The same is true of photos - a dust spot here or a fingerprint there on the camera lens, and TurboTax might have no hope of reading the W-2 correctly.

Taxpayers must always doublecheck the forms that are being imported one way or another.

Sorry Bill --  I can understand the response coming from the TT employee 🙂  I am in support for last 20 years, no need to defend for not support fault 🙂

The information from the W2 was down loaded from the ADP  Payroll company directly.  I am sure millions of customers and products will use the API to pull the information.

Considering  20 or so thumbs up the thread for the questions, there will be 1000 more who read and make the necessary change. Giving voice those who are quite

Even if the Data was gibberish from a scans, it is difficult to understand the Tax code and not pay attenting to the letter and pay only attention to the numbers .  Note that the W2 has only Letter and not any detain on what it is.   I am sure the software guys will figure it how to address if there was a problme .

Suggestion for Enhancement :  will help future TT release

The TT software does not point to  where the mistake is and keep adding it back, even if you delete them.  Most TT users will look at their Kids information, adding and deleting their profile and gets stuck , wasting 2 hours.

If the error correction points indication where it originated  W2, or Kids information, it will help identify the root cause
