This is in the Foreign income section. I am almost done with the preparation, but it will not let me file as there are items to review. This is one of them related to form 2555 from what I can see. I believe it is section 28 for foreign housing expenses entry where there is a drop-down to select a country, and Bulgaria is not on the list. Last year my return was similar and it looks like I was able to claim those expenses somehow.
Follow these steps. In the Form 2555 instructions for housing line 29b:
Note. If the location in which you incurred housing expenses isn't listed in the table at the end of these instructions, and the number of days in your qualifying period that fall within the 2023 tax year is 365, DO NOT complete this worksheet. Instead, enter $36,000 on line 29b.
1.
Enter the number of days in your qualifying period that fall within the 2023 tax year. (See the instructions for line 31.)

_____
2.
Did you enter 365 on line 1?
No. If the amount on line 1 is less than 365, skip line 2 and go to line 3.
Yes. Locate the amount under the column Limit on Housing Expenses (full year) from the table at the end of these instructions for the location in which you incurred housing expenses. This is your limit on housing expenses. Enter the amount here and on line 29b. Also, see Election to apply higher limit on housing expenses, later.
Do not complete the rest of this worksheet

Enter the amount under the column Limit on Housing Expenses (daily) from the table at the end of these instructions for the location in which you incurred housing expenses. If the location isn't listed in the table, enter $98.63. Also, see Election to apply higher limit on housing expenses, later

4.
Multiply line 1 by line 3. This is your limit on housing expenses. Enter the result here and on line 29b

Unfortunately this did not work in TurboTax software. I just ended up removing my housing expense from the input page, and that took care of it. I may have lost some return money but nothing else was working for filing electronically.
Same issue here. Not making the selection will forfeit the foreign housing exclusion and that adds a significant amount to the tax liability. I have posted on the support forum and awaiting a resolution.
At the moment, this is a known issue that is currently being investigated by Turbo Tax. Use this link to sign up for an email notification informing you when the information is resolved.
Thank you. Do you have an estimated time for resolution? Will this be resolved prior to the deadline for e-file of 2023 taxes?
Thanks again
The situation you described is being addressed and corrected. However, there is not a known timeframe for when it will be done. Since it is actively being addressed, it should be corrected long before the filing deadline.
The following TurboTax help article includes a link where you can sign up with your email address to be notified when everything has been corrected. The article specifically mentions the Czech Republic as the country that is not shown in the list, but others are being addressed as well.
Unfortunately that does not help me as I filed already as I needed the 1040 form.
The option to select "other" is now available. You can revisit the foreign housing exclusion section to finish your return.
