I contributed $3002 to my HSA in 2019. I distributed $2567 and I answered yes to the HDHP question. Why is it showing "Excess employer contributions withdrawn" $3002?

I originally answered "No" to the HDHP question, then went back and changed my answer. This kept the 3002 as excess. I cleared my return and it's now fixed.

is the $3002 on your W-2?  if so, don't enter if again when asked during the interview process.  that is the most common error people make.

the amount on line 12 of the W-2 is technically called the 'employer contribution' even though it includes what was withheld from your paycheck .   What you DIRECTLY send to the administrator is technically called the 'employee contribution"

Thanks for the response! Yes, the $3002 is on my W-2. I wasn't asked again during the interview process, so I'm not sure where it's coming from. I went through the 1099-SA again to make sure it wasn't entered anywhere.
