South Carolina's Motor Fuel Income Tax Credit is computed by comparing preventative maintenance costs incurred in South Carolina to the total of 7 cents (for tax year 2020) per gallon of fuel purchased in South Carolina.
The lower of the two amounts is the credit you're eligible for.
Please see Form I-385 for the precise computation, and GATHER YOUR RECEIPTS FOR THE STATE’S MOTOR FUEL INCOME TAX CREDIT for more information.
The calculation for 2022 isn't working either. In reviewing form I-385, I should receive a credit, but Turbo Tax is calculating it as $0 credit. I have entered the gallons of fuel, as well as the maintenance costs.
Almost all of the SC forms will not be functional until at least 2/9 ... so return later to finish the state return. If you wish you can file the federal now and the state later.
Thank you so much! I'll try again then and perhaps have better luck.
It's now March 27, 2023 and the TURBO Tax calculation for South Carolina is still showing $.00 as a tax credit while I have both gallons purchased and maintenance expenses.
South Carolina Form I-385 Motor Fuel Income Tax Credit is available and functioning in both TurboTax Online and CD/Download.
Review the qualifications to claim the credit at Resident Taxpayer Eligibility for the Credit.
Note: Check N/A to the question "If this vehicle is a truck, is the empty weight 9,000 pounds or less and the gross weight 11,000 pounds or less?" if you do not have a truck.
Thank you for the CORRECT answer.
After wading through hundreds of TT tax questions, the wording of this question for a CAR seems at best awkward and at worse convoluted and misleading. "Note: Check N/A to the question "If this vehicle is a truck, is the empty weight 9,000 pounds or less and the gross weight 11,000 pounds or less?" if you do not have a truck. "
