Enhanced Senior Deduction

The section on Schedule 1-A refers to MAGI but is based on AGI plus a few additions.  Tax exempt interest is not one of those additions.  Is that correct?  That is different than MAGI calculations for Medicare Surcharge.  Turbo tax is allowing me to take the full $12,000 deduction based on AGI without adjusting for Tax exempt income.

Correct, tax exempt interest is not added back.

There is no mention of adding back tax-exempt interest on Schedule 1-A, so it does not get included in modified adjusted gross income for purposes of the senior deduction.

There are many different calculations for MAGI for different things.  The MAGI for Schedule 1-A is only the top 3 lines.

Thank you.  I was surprised to learn there are different MAGA calculations.  Why couldn't they have different names for different MAGA determinations.

It is sort of like mixed drinks. Most people know a Margarita is a drink made with tequila. But there a several variations of the drink, like a strawberry margarita, mango margarita, lime margarita, etc. They are all margaritas. It is the same with Modified Adjusted Gross Income, it comes in many different varieties!
