DAF (Donor Advised Fund) Contribution

To report your Donor Advised Fund (DAF) contribution in TurboTax, follow these steps:

Open TurboTax.
Navigate to Federal > Deductions & Credits > Charitable Donations > Donations to Charity in 2023.
Start or revisit the section.
On the screen labeled “Donations,” select “Yes.”
On the next screen, enter the name of the charity.
Select “Add” next to the stock (if applicable).
Continue with the prompts to complete the entry.

Thank you.

Can you go into more detail please?  It sounds like a DAF will require me to click yes on "I attached conditions on a donation", correct?  And that's even after TurboTax telling me to go back and choose "Item" instead of "stock" donation?

I have the same question.   Can I just enter in my DAF contribution as a stock donation?

In most cases, contributions to a Donor Advised Fund should be entered as an "Item," which does include stock. This option asks additional questions regarding the donation. Be sure to follow the interview to the end so you can indicate the donation has restrictions. You will need to enter specific information about the restrictions.

I had the same issue.  And then it asked me for an address for the "Schwab DAF".   Are we doing this right?

Q.  It sounds like a DAF will require me to click yes on "I attached conditions on a donation", correct?

A. No. The fact that your contribution is to a DAF (also known as a Charitable Gift Fund [CGF]) does not, in itself,   constitute "conditions". You enter it the same way as you would enter a contribution to a "regular" charity.

Q. Can I just enter in my DAF contribution as a stock donation?

A. Yes.

Q. I had the same issue.  And then it asked me for an address for the "Schwab DAF".   Are we doing this right?

A. Yes, probably.  Address of the charity is a standard question, if you first identify you donation as "items".

If the value of the "items" you donated is more than $500, the IRS requires TurboTax to ask you for the address(es) of any charitable organization(s) that you donated "items" to (other than cash and certain securities).

Do you know what should be the address of Schwab DAF in this case? Their headquarters? mailing address? our address associated with our account (say my home address)?
