Hello,
When can I stop claiming my daughter as a dependent? She turned 18 this past January (2024) and is heading off to college in a few weeks. Am I able to claim her and any of her college expenses that I am paying for?
Thank you!

As long as your daughter is a full-time college student she can be claimed as a qualifying child dependent until the tax year in which she turns 24, and you can enter education credits on your own tax return. You do not get the child tax credit for a child older than 16, but you can get the $500 credit for other dependents for claiming her.

As long as she is a full time student you can claim her until age 24. You can also claim education credit if you meet the criteria.
