Check "Remove These Wages" for each state wage line that is a duplicate. Live in CT, work in MA. Do I remove the CT line?

Filing my state returns and I am told to complete my non-resident state return first which is MA. On my MA non-resident state return, under “Let's Confirm Your Taxable State Wages“, I have 2 lines.  I work in MA & live in CT.  It states "Remove Wages for each state wage line that is duplicate".  Do I remove the CT line?
For context I work remotely in MA and I earned one salary but salary comes up twice in line 16 of my W2. Salary is listed as the same under CT and MA, tax amounts are different.  Thanks!

Yes, in your MA non-resident return you would remove the CT line as the duplicate.  You work in MA is taxed by MA and as a resident of CT, CT taxes all income.  Once you complete the non-resident return you will claim a credit on your CT resident return for taxes paid to MA.

thank you, I have a  follow up question
1- on my CT resident return it asks for “total tax” and describes “enter the lesser of tax total or liability from your jurisdiction tax return”. It pulls the “total tax paid or tax liability” from MA and gives me an option to put another amount if different. Is total tax paid my CT and MA state income taxes from line 17 of my W2 combined?

It is looking for the total tax paid to another tax authority, so it does not charge you taxes on the same income. That would be double taxation.

If I may piggyback off this question, I have a follow-up.  First, thank you for the initial answer.  Very helpful.  I would have done it wrong.

For context, I live in WI but my company is in NJ.  I do all my work remotely.  After I tell Turbo Tax to remove the WI taxes as duplicate, the next question in TT asks me if earned all my wages in NJ.  I can answer "Yes, I earned it all in NJ" or "No, I earned some in a different state."

What is considered the "earning" state?  WI or NJ?Capture.JPG

If you never physically worked within NJ, then you earned ZERO income in NJ.  In fact, you don't even have to file an NJ return unless your employer mistakenly withheld NJ taxes.

Your income is 100% taxable by your home state of Wisconsin.

Thank you!  Yes, they mistakenly withheld a good chunk of state taxes.  I was informed by HR a number of months ago that there had been a mistake regarding NJ taxes.  This must have been it.
