$300 Charitable Contribution for Standard Deduction filers not being taken on form

if I understand your question correctly, you are unable to claim your $300 standard deduction?  If so, please look over these steps.

If you entered your charitable donations by going to federal> deductions and credits>charitable donations, delete it from this section. This is not the way to claim the $300 charitable donation. instead, report it in the following manner after deleting the entry from charitable donations in the deductions and credit section.

  1. Log into Turbo Tax
  2. Federal>deductions and credits>review
  3. Now you should be in a page that summarizes your tax breaks. Go to the bottom of the screen and select wrap up tax breaks
  4. Scroll through the screens until you reach the page that informs you the Standard deduction is right for you.
  5. The very next page is where you will enter the amount for your charitable donation. Here you can enter an amount up to $300.

  1. Federal>deductions and credits>review

There was no "review" to click on, but I finally got to the correct screen and entered it.

I've used TurboTax for years and years and this was its most annoying failure. Wasted over an hour of my time.

It's EASY to search and find statements that even if you aren't itemizing, in 2020 you can claim up to $300 in contributions to charities. But NOWHERE does it tell you where/how to report the up to $300.

We are both over 65 and i read that we can claim $1300  in charitable deduction on Line 10b, but the system will only bring over $300 to that line.  How do i fix that?

The $1300 is the additional standard deduction and it is reported on form 1040 line 12.  People who are 65 and over or blind can claim an additional standard deduction of $1,300.

The $300 charitable donation on line 10b is correct. The special new provision allows people to deduct up to $300 in donations to qualifying charities this year. irs.gov
