I received the 11Mar update. All errors we cleared and I tried efile 3 times and received the TT Technical Hiccup error during VALIDATION Check. I called TT support Level 2 rep. No help at all. Basically she said you are out of luck. They can’t help. Any other have TECHNICAL HICCUP. Done with MACOS Big Sur.
@TrishMarie and others who may have been confused about directory versus folder in my directions, I’m an old fogey who started on computers a few centuries ago in pre-Windows DOS. In those days, what are now called folders were called directories, and I guess I still use the terms interchangeably. But for anyone significantly younger than my 74, think folder anywhere I said directory. The post by HK-NYC right under your question answered your question correctly.
My wife is laughing so hard after I read her your latest message. I'm 5 years older than you and have the same issues, having had an Apple IIe but switching to the first IBM PC whatever year they came out. And then after almost 40 years using PCs, I switched to a MacBook Air to see what it was like. I like the MacBook Air, but since I couldn't figure out how to e-file on my MacBook, I went back to my desktop PC to e-file my return earlier today based on your directions. Thanks again for discovering how to do this and helping so many of us e-file!
Just downloaded another update, which I suspect may be our fix.
I too downloaded the latest update and it was accepted as well. It worked using my MacBook Air macOS Big Sur Version 11.6.4. So it seems all is well.
E-file transmitted and accepted 18 minutes later. Form 1116 Schedule B was included.
Just E-filed successfully including my Foreign tax credit form 1116 and the related schedule B. All done for this year. What a fiasco with the foreign tax credit! TT did a terrible job of addressing this issue, and their lack of communication on the subject was appalling!
I am not ready to file yet but wondering if I have the latest version on the Mac which completely resolves this - here is a snapshot of my version info when you click on TurboTax on the menu bar, About, then the More Info button. Does this match the version info on someone's Mac where they were able to file without any manual modifications of the file/PDFs? Thanks for your help!
Larry Dean thanks for you clear and thorough explanation. Your input allowed me to finally transmit my federal and state taxes last night. After the last few days I understood that this new form (Form 1116 sch B) would have to be filed as a pdf file attachment. However it was your mapping of each step and setting up the attachment file in the right directory that allowed me to finally transmit successfully. Very disappointing performance and follow-up service by Turbo Tax this year. However contributions and answers on this site allowed me to overcome the problem.
After downloading today's TurboTax update, I e-filed my Fed & State (MN) tax returns. Within 15 minutes I got email from TurboTax that my Federal Tax Return has been accepted. Now I am waiting for State Tax Return. It appears all complaints helped to fix the program. Thanks to all.
I'm in the same spot at Don-TT. Downloaded the update for TTMac H&B just now but my version numbers are slightly different: 2021.r21.083 vs 2021.r21.083
@993C4 I wonder if they stage the rollout? Note also, at the bottom my build date is March 11 and yours is March 12. I suspect you have the correct/final fix, as that is today but mine was yesterday morning which we know did not work for many.
@993C4 My version matches yours. I just e-filed and it went through without error. Within 15 minutes, Federal return was accepted. State return usually takes a few days, but I see no reason why it won't go through. This wasn't the only major problem I encountered with Turbo Tax this year. If Turbo Tax would have communicated directly more frequently (like they did yesterday) with the community, they could have avoided some of the negative press. Glad this nightmare appears to be finally resolved.
I would just like to thank all those members that explained how to e-file the tax returns with the Form 1116 Sch. B. I would not have been able to file without your help and I truly appreciate this community. I also agree that TT should have been able to send instructions on how to set up the attachment folder and what name to give the form. Thanks again for all your help. Hopefully the IRS can now do their job.
I agree the community is a wealth of information and support. Although I didn't do the work arounds that are too technical for me and I'm a MacPro user, the information as to when the upgrades were coming and who to contact were great. I got the final upgrade this morning for Schedule B and was able to efile and within 10 minutes the IRS accepted it. Thanks to all.
Now my new issue is trying to figure out the detail for gross income all sources on Form 1116 line 3e. Again, I'm a MacPro guy and I'm a 11K over my AGI. I've read that capital losses should not be included (added back) and it seems that my SS income reduction should be added back. Non dividend distributions added also?
Anyway, a schedule summarizing this detail seems logical and appropriate. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
