Thank you. You saved my sanity.
I remember that post and actually created a duplicate return doing the deduction rather than a credit so I could compare the difference in taxes and whether it would be worth filing an amended return at a later date. But I don't think I ever altered the "original credit return". But at this point, I'm not 100% sure. I manually re-entered the numbers from last year's return. Glad to hear it was a "me" problem and not a "TT" problem in this case.
Glad it went through for you! There have been so many posts in this thread, a LOT has been lost in the shuffle. I doubt anyone's bothering to read all (now) 28 pages.
Thanks. I just filed mine on a backup PC desktop with the attachment subfolder in c: and was able to e-file okay. I'll take a look at your suggestion for another one I need to file.
This workaround was a success!! Thank you to those who discovered and tested it. Glad I kept a link to this thread since I was blocked from filing because of TT not being able to find the attachment. Very disappointing that they could not even provide an instruction of what to do on that same screen.
Thanks to Larry Dean, another tax return filed and ACCEPTED with foreign tax credit carry forwards. Hopefully, someday TurboTax will get this issue fixed for people who are less computer oriented.
verified fix thank you
For us non technical types, this seems complicated and in all my years as a TT used I have never had to attach a PDF file myself. As has been stated numerous times, these efforts should not be needed and it's up to TT to make this correction and make it seamless for us types and I will wait a few days to see if TT responds.
As a backup plan has anyone figured out a workaround for a MacPro desktop TT that I downloaded? (if that makes any difference?) If so I'd love to have someone explain that process in non technical step by step terms.
As further backup plan, I've seen numerous mentions of contacting the president and other TT programmers etc., I've had no success in finding those contact phone numbers so please pass on how to track those down so I can harass and cajole as necessary. Thanks.
Amen to that for less oriented computer types which I just posted.
I'm a little confused here. I just downloaded the latest program update for Mac desktop. I now see that I have a Form 1116 Schedule B both in the program and in the printout return to file. I show no forms errors. When I start the eFile process, it goes all the way the Transmit Return step without any errors. But I see people here talking about needing to add the Schedule B as a PDF attachment. Is that only for the Windows version? If I go ahead and Transmit, will the Schedule B be included?
Based on my experience on my MacBook Air the answer is No, it won't let you e-file. I went through this earlier today, and got all the way through the process, clicked on e-file for both federal and state returns, and received a message something like "we've encountered a problem. you can try to e-file again or print your return and mail it" (not a direct quote). Fortunately, I also have a desktop PC and I could do the suggested alternative of creating an attachment folder on the c: drive and including a copy of the Form 1116 Schedule B, named as suggested, and that worked. Someone else suggested doing this on a Mac on the main drive but I haven't tried that.
P.S. You might want to wait to see if TurboTax indeed issues an update to correct this by the end of the day; that would be easier.
Just to be clear, did you get all the way to this step:
Or was it somewhere before that where it told you there was a problem with eFile? I have not tried to hit the Transmit Returns Now button yet because I've got a few things I still need to check in other areas of the return.
Yes, I did get to that step, and clicked on Transmit Returns Now, and that is when I got the error message. Once you are ready, it doesn't hurt to try it; in my case it just said the e-file failed and I could try again. But maybe they will have everything fixed by the time you are ready.
I don't think the update that fixes the efiling error has been issued yet today.
