Well you are ahead of me.... I cant figure out how to attach a file to my return. The option to attach is greyed out.
"Attachments" is grayed out for me as well - I went into Forms view (Views menu) to do it. Not that it did any good.
just got off a call with a 20 yr. Big 4 retired tax partner at Turbo Tax and their support. They are aware for desktop version the attachment is not working. They told me to expect another update later today and clear my cache and e-file tomorrow. Hope this helps he knew his stuff.
Thank goodness. And thank you for spending the time on the phone; I was about to do the same. If it's not fixed by 4pm or so tonight I'll give them a call.
But what exactly did he mean by "clear your cache"? Browser cache? I wouldn't have expected that to affect Turbotax.
How did you "verify" that Forms 1116 and 1116 Schedule B were in the printed file? I found those in the PDF file but don't know how to tell TurboTax to proceed with the e-file. Thanks
I have $0 carryover amount on form 1116 line 10, and am still receiving the same error that I cannot efile. Because the carryover amount is $0, I should NOT need Schedule B. This looks like a TurboTax bug. Is there something i can do to fix this?
You can generate the PDF under File --> Print.
Cathy: You have to have a blank, not a 0, to avoid needing the form. Try clearing them out entirely.
Yahoo! I was able to efile today, and just got notified my return was accepted by the IRS!!!
Thank you! Finally got that to work.
For others reference: I had to change line 10 to blank on the Foreign Tax Credit Computation Worksheet. If you override Form 1116 line 10 to blank directly, it generates an error in final review.
I blundered around with the schedule B attachment problem for a while, but finally guessed the answer and it accepted my efile without resorting to zeroing out the total carryover which might affect future years. You go to the step by step at File, Print/Save, Save PDF, then choose specific forms and from the list at the right, select 1116 Schedule B, choose save PDF, and rather than having it use whatever name you’ve been calling your return, type in the file name Form1116ScheduleB. It will then save that file name as a PDF to whatever default directory you’ve been saving to, which in my case was Documents\turbotax. When I did that, it still didn’t work, so I added a subdirectory \attachment\ to Documents\turbotax, copied the 1116B file into that subdirectory and it still didn’t work. Finally I added a subdirectory \attachment\ to both the root documents and the root C: hard drive, copied the 1116B file to both places, and it finally worked. I don’t know which one was the right one, but it was either documents\attachment\Form1116ScheduleB.pdf or c:\attachment\Form1116ScheduleB.pdf.
Turbotax should be humiliated by both the tardiness and the lack of directions of how to attach it, but it least it is finally there if you stumble around long enough to figure it out on your own.
That worked! I tried several locations and the only one that worked properly was C:\attachment\Form1116ScheduleB.pdf. Thank you!
BRAVO!!!!
Worked for me! Needs to be in the root drive eg c:\attachment
jtrevor's solution worked for me also!
To summarize:
1. Go to Forms, and search for Form 1116 Schedule B.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the page, click on 'print' and save to your hard drive as a pdf file
3. Using File Explorer, create a subdirectory at the top level of your C: drive names 'attachment'
4. Store the pdf in that subdirectory with the title Form1116ScheduleB
That really wasn't obvious. TT documentation really sucks!
Thanks, but credit where credit is due - LarryDean came up with it!
