Tax Year Prior to 2020: 1095-A

I'm having problem with the system keep saying that I need to input information from from form 1095-A. I keep indicating No, but when I send it in it keeps getting rejected. Is there some question that is initiating the change once you say No.

Turbo Tax says that if I do not enter my 1095-A form, then the IRS will reject my return.  I am retired and on Medicare.  Retirees on Medicare do not receive a 1095-A form so how can the IRS reject my return?  Your answer for me to continue past this section makes me nervous if TurboTax says the IRS will reject my return if I do not enter a 1095-A....

you say your taxes were reduced by $500.  That's a good thing if your taxes are reduced, right?  Unless you meant your "REFUND" was reduced by $500, then that's a bad thing.....

If you continually have rejection issues, do the following as this cleared many of the rejection problems that have occurred. This will not affect anything on your return, but having the form there may allow the IRS to accept your return.  To do this, take the following steps:

  • Click Deductions and Credits
  • Scroll down to Medical and Click Show More
  • Click Start or Revisit next to the ACA
  • As you walk through the questions, you will be asked if you received a 1095-A.  If you did NOT, click YES.
  • Enter 0's for the Marketplace identifier and Policy number.
  • Enter $1 for January monthly premium amount and SLCSP
  • Walk through to the end and submit your return.

Let me know if this works.

I do not have health insurance thru Market Place, do not have 1095-A, therefore bypassed the 1095-A section of Turbo Tax, final review resulted in a 1095-A error.  How to correct?  Will IRS reject the return?

To enter your Form 1095-A -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Deductions and Credits
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Medical
  • On Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A), click the start or update button

Or enter 1095-a in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to 1095-a

On the screen Did you receive Form 1095-A for your health insurance plan? select No, I didn't receive a Form 1095-A

Sadly, that doesn't work!  Trust me -- I tried.  It won't let you move forward.  Even the Turbo Tax help wasn't able to help me.

me too and the live help wasn't able to help me.  I am now waiting for someone else to call me back in hopes that they can help me.

To clarify, what is the specific issue you are experiencing?

It wouldn't let me pass or move forward.  Long story short -- I had CPA on the phone for an hour and she had me skip to state stuff -- and health info came up there, and then that "satisfied" TT -- and it was no longer an issue, but yes -- def some bug or something if several of us are getting stuck and we can't move forward.

Tax Year Prior to 2020: 1095-A

I have repeatedly indicated that no 1095-A was received.  I received 1095-C.  The return was rejected because of the missing 1095-A of which I have repeatedly answered no to.  It appears that as soon as I leave that screen in Turbo Tax, it reverts back to yes.  So of course my return is rejected again.  This is an outrageous error as well as the fact that the return is claimed to be 100% accurate.  How can this be corrected?

Tax Year Prior to 2020: 1095-A

I hear your frustration.  I had the same insanity!  I had to get a CPA on the phone and she eventually was able to get me "free" of it so that I could move on and get an accepted return.

Tax Year Prior to 2020: 1095-A

All of these recommended solutions do not address the issue.  Turbo tax is automatically defaulting to yes even though I have changed the 1095-A question to no.  So of course when the return is filed it is rejected because the IRS thinks I received a 1095-A which I did not.

If there is a partial entry in your return. You are correct, Forms 1095-B and 1095-C do not need to be filed and should be kept with your tax records. Please do not enter their information into TurboTax.

When our interview section Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A) for the Marketplace insurance reaches the screen, Did you receive Form 1095-A for your health insurance plan? It will default to "Yes." If you select "No" and Continueit will not generate any Form 8962 information into your return. If you come back, it will default to "Yes" again, but it remained the "No" you selected until you came back into the area. This is as it should be.

In TurboTax Online, to ensure there is not a partially completed form in TurboTax, please check here to delete the form from your return. This will delete both the form and the entries. Please check for any Form 1095-A and also Form 8962.

  1. To Delete a Form go black menu bar on the left
  2. Click on Tax Tools
  3. Click on Tools
  4. Under Other helpful links, click on Delete a Form
  5. Scroll down and check for 1095-A or 8962  and if there is one, click on Delete
  6. Click on the blue Delete Selected Form
  7. At the bottom, Continue
  8. Repeat until any Form 1095-A or From 8962 are deleted
  9. At the bottom, Continue with my Return

The first person who tried to help me with this from TurboTax was not able to figure it out.  I had to get a CPA on the phone.  She took a bit of time to figure it out, but she did figure it out.  We had to somehow bypass it (can't remember how she did that) and jump over to State taxes which allowed me to say I didn't have that form (or something like that) and then we were free to go back to federal.  Only THEN -- did it allow us to move forward.  There is clearly a bug of some wort in the programming.
