I have entered a 1099R - the only amount we withdrew was for QCD giving. I entered it into the turbotax - and zero'd out the 2a box (although the 1099R has the amount in there. Turbotax seems to be doing the IRS form correctly (deducting the amount and having QCD noted), but it is also giving me an error saying it can't be zero for the amount for that 1099R. Why am I getting the error during the final check? Will the IRS see the error, or do I simply file and ignore the error flag???

"and zero'd out the 2a box " - are you saying that you wrote over the amount in box 2a because you though it wasn't taxable?
Just leave the 1099-R as is, and in the 1099-R interview - if you are old enough - TurboTax will ask you if you gave this to charity and then you will be able to enter how much was the QCD. Let TurboTax do the work for you.
Where is this "interview"? I am doing online taxes. From what I've read, I put the amount minus the QCD in 2A box.
You have to enter the amount in box 2a. After you enter the 1099R you have to keep going to the end of the 1099R section. One of the followup questions will ask if it was to a Charity. I made several QCD donations. They work right. Go back and Edit the 1099R.
Okay, I think I figured out what you meant. I changed the 2A back to what the 1099R stated and it did ask me if it went to charity and it seems to be working. No error.
