There is a $12,000 balance of back child support owed to the state of Kansas. My daughter was born in Kansas 11 years ago I have full custody of her but we now we live in Texas. the state of Kansas is making me pay back the $12,000 even though I have full custody of my daughter. I’ve asked them several times why don’t they locate her dad so he can pay back the child support and that I am responsible for the back child support .is this true has anyone ever experience this? My tax refund is less than what is owed. Will they take my whole full refund?
Did you receive a notice that the IRS still has an offset against your account?
You can contact Department of Treasury’s Financial Management Service at 1-800-304-3107 to see whether there is an offset against your account.
On IRS website it says my tax refund was accepted and due to be deposited on the 9th. Problem is I owe $600 to friend of the court which will put an offset to my $10,000 return. How long will it take for my deposit now?
If there is an offset expect the refund to take a couple of extra weeks to be dispersed ... check the IRS site once a day for a status update.
If I would of known I had $600 owed I could pay it right now. Do you think that would speed it up?
@chefjoelcarpenter You should not pay it now. The process of the offset has already started. If you paid now you would have a double payment.
I'm fine with a couple weeks. Online however it says it takes six months for a return after child support offset. Is that how long I should assume it will take?
That seems like a long time but it might be better for you to assume it will take that long, then if your refund comes sooner, you get a nice surprise.
Man friend of the court needs a revamp. I am a single father to two but my eldest lives with his mom. (Yes that's 3 kids) and I help her with child support. I pay $300 monthly but I get paid on Tuesdays. This $600 was because I get charged the first but do not pay until payday so late fees accumulated throughout the year.
$50 a month * 12 = $600
Now if im paying through it coming directly out of my salary I shouldn't be charged these fees. Now if it does take six months it will be to late for vacation.
So I recently filed a joint tax return and owe 3000$ in child support, but my refund amount is well over the amount due to DCSE. I check the IRS website to see what the adjusted amount was due to me after the offset and the amount said 0.00. Have anyone experienced this?
Did you still get the remaining even if this balance says 0?
The IRS may have sent the amount to the Treasury Offset Program (TOP) and they will adjust for the debt and send you the remaining refund.

Ok i know that this year has been unprecedented. So here goes Owed back child support of $6000. I filed taxes on 4/4/20. Refund was 7200 fed and 1160 state roughly. So they took my state then we got stimulas that was $2700. That was taken also. So i havent recieve the remaining fed refund. Will that remaining refund still be sent to turbotax and applied to turbotax debit card? Also it says on wheres my refund .com its still being processed. Does this seem to be a long time. Also my credit report says its paid off and debt free but my ex and the child support office said there is still a remaining balence roughly 3000. Is it possible that the stimulas payment and state screwed the process up and had to change refund several times? Ive never dealt with this and have started making calls. Thanks im sorry its a long one
Due to Covid, everything seems to be taking longer than usual. If you refund is still processing you will just need to be patient.
The online link is your best option to track your refund. I have attached a link with more answers from the IRS as to why your refund may be taking longer to process.
There is a delay in processing the returns at the IRS due to Covid-19 and social distancing policies in effect.
Thanks you thats about where i made it too. I contacted BFS? they could only tell me that the last offset was mid may and was stimulas looks like 14 weeks will be my reality
