My itemized deductions are $3500+ more than the standard deduction, but it says my refund is zero either way. Is that because I'm on Social Security Disability? Thanks

Do you have any other income?  If you only get ssi or SS or SSDI  it is not taxable and you do not have to file a return.  And there is no benefit in claiming dependents or deductions.   Unless you have federal income taxes withheld from the benefits or you get health care insurance through one of the state marketplace exchanges and receive a Form 1095-A then you need to file a tax return.

Itemized Deductions or the Standard Deduction can only reduce your income to zero and not create a refund.  Then you only get back any withholding taken out.

If you did not have tax withheld from your income then your itemized deductions will have no effect, since no tax was withheld from which to get a refund.  Did you have any tax withheld from any of your income?
