You only enter what you got. Not if he got it for her. He filed his own return last year? But you are claiming them this year? He might need to pay the advance Child Tax Credit back if you are claiming them this year.
This is for the Stimulus too.
You only enter the Stimulus payment you actually got. Then you will get the Stimulus for the dependent you are adding. You do not report the Stimulus payment they got. They can keep the payment they got. They don't have to return it.
You can really get it now. It is based on 2021 return. It's legit. Their 2020 return was just used to send out the checks fast. It's a IRS loophole.
See Question 15 here
You do not enter anything about advance child tax credit payments that were received by someone else. You only enter payments that YOU received. If your son received the payments between July and December then HE has to file a tax return and enter how much he received. Depending on his 2021 income, he may or may not have to pay it back.
If you are now claiming your grandchild for 2021 you will get the full amount of the child tax credit for 2021. It will show up on line 28 of your Form 1040.
