My car's catalytic converter was stolen and I had to pay $2500 for a replacement. I use this car primarily for work, so can I get a tax break for this loss?

You would enter the cost of the converter as an expense in the Vehicle Expenses section in Self-Employment.

did you have insurance?  if so the IRS requires yo to file an insurance claim in order to take the loss.

No. The only way way to claim this loss is through a causality and theft loss.  Because of of Tax cuts and jobs Act passed in 2017, yo cannot claim causality of theft losses on personal property from 2018-2025 tax years per Form 4684 instructions.
