My 14-year-old kid recently started to officiate sports games and earned $600, so he received 1099-NEC.
I did enter his job related expenses such as uniforms, books, official membership, official gear etc, which cost $450. However, based on Turbox Tax, he still owes taxes for almost $90. Does this look right? Did I enter something wrong?

It depends on where you entered the expenses. You should have prepared a Schedule C and apply all of the expenses there. The expenses has to be entered in the same place as the income.

Maybe. Is it applying SE tax or Federal Income Tax? Line 4c states: "Combine lines 4a and 4b. If less than $400, stop; you don’t owe self-employment tax."
Print your return and look at it to see exactly what is happening.
When you print a records copy of your return, we include everything that was sent to the government, plus extra documentation and calculation worksheets.
However, the printout won't include copies of the entry forms you got in the mail, such as W-2s or 1099s. If you need copies of those, contact whoever issued them originally (e.g., your payroll department, payor, bank, brokerage, etc.).
Before proceeding, we recommend that Adobe Acrobat Reader DC is on your system. Most computers already come with it, but if yours doesn't, you can get a free download from Adobe.
To print through TurboTax:
You can also print directly from a saved PDF of your return by double-clicking the PDF to open it and then following the instructions in Step 4.
Hi ColeenD3!
Thank you for directing me to check the Schedule SE!
I just checked and found that 4a listed as $550 and 4b as nothing, which made 4c as $550. I did enter the job related expenses, but it seemed not reflecting here. I wonder I entered it incorrectly. Sometimes the questions by Turbo Tax confuse me. How do I get it fixed? Where should I enter the expenses?
Thank you again for your help!

Thank you so much for your guidance! That's very helpful!
Once I entered the expenses from Schedule C, the tax amount just turned magically to zero! I guess I didn't enter the expenses at the right place. Sometimes those Turbo Tax Easy Step questions are somehow confusing.
