By May 14th Turbotax has had plenty of time to fix the problem of not allowing one to file if one has no charitable deductions and 0 shows. Unfortunately I did not see that one could enter a blank in order to file so I entered $1. This lowered by tax by $6 so I have now underpaid the IRS as well as lied that I gave $1 to charity.

Intersting....so you never gave at least $1 to charity or a Church?
Nope and if you look through turbotax, you will see lots of others had the same problem.
were you able to file? My Turbotax won't let me file no matter what I put in that box.
I was able to file by putting $1.00 in the box.
Another glaring error, on the other side of the coin, is that TurboTax doesn't recognize that under the CARES Act -- passed over a year ago -- allows one to claim charitable contributions up to $300 even if one does not itemize. The program told me that as I was entering data; however at the review it tells me that I can't claim a charitable contribution because I didn't itemize.
What's the deal, Turbo Tax????????????????????????This is just one of SEVERAL glaring tax law errors that I found. Makes me wonder about the accuracy of this product. I have been using Turbo Tax for years, and thought that it was the best for accuracy. Apparently, they have become incompetent.
Hi,
Naturally I have no idea what TT software you are using and anything about your tax affairs, however I can assure you that at least the Premium software covered off this $300 Deduction with a simple Question, "Any Charitable Cash Contributions?" which included a statement regarding the use of Standard Deduction and the ability to claim a maximum of $300 as a Deduction which appears on Line 10b for your Tax Return and has the effect of reducing the AGI by that amount.
This Question appears following the "Donations" sequence if you were adding preparing an Itemized Deductions option.
I e-Filed my Tax Return on 3/31 so clearly the software had been updated by then along with the changes to accommodate the first $10,200 of Unemployment being Tax Free if you were eligible for that.
