If you are self-employed then you can the business-related portion of vehicle expenses. Employees are not allowed to take a deduction under the 2018 tax law. If you claim actual expenses rather than the standard mileage, then you can claim a portion of your automobile insurance. Car insurance for expense?

I have turbo tax home and business and i do not see an area to input vehicle insurance and gas.  I only see the area for mileage info and then on a second page an area for:

work related parking fees, work related local transportation, property tax portion of vehicle registration fee and total interest paid on vehicle. NOTHING FOR INSURANCE & GAS EXPENSE.  PLEASE ADVISE.  Thanks you.

This section of the TurboTax program is not yet finalized so if you are using the Actual Expenses method for your vehicle you will need to wait until the Form 4562 is available on 01/29/2020.   As stated in the program -

If you are not claiming 100% business use for the vehicle (and I doubt you are) then you are taking the "per-mile" deduction. For 2019 the per-mile deduction is 58 cents per mile. That will include vehicle depreciation, insurance, registration, the whole works. So you can't deduct other "itemized" vehicle expenses.  Besides, depending on the actual business miles driven as a percentage of personal miles, you'll more than likely find the per-mile deduction is actually higher.

Do note that you can only claim vehicle use if you are self-employed. If you are a W-2 employee then absolutely nothing in the way of work related expenses (including vehicle use) is deductible.
