I was told you can get an additional tax break for the amount of your real estate taxes that were paid to Schools. Is that accurate? How do I input?

This tax break must be a state or local tax provision, since it's not federal.

What state and/or city might you be referring to?  And please add any additional details you might be aware of.

Thanks for your response.  I live in Nebraska (Douglas County) and it was mentioned that I should be able to do some sort of additional deduction for the School (1.06513) and School Bond (.16797) taxing unit.   There is nothing I can find in Turbo tax with regards to this and I’m unfortunately not able to find anything else online so I’m beginning to question the accuracy of this information.

Yes Nebraska has a Property Tax Incentive credit in the state section.

  1. In the Nebraska section, find the screen Any Nebraska Credits? Continue.
  2. Select Property Owned by an Individual Tax Credit
  3. Fill in your parcel information in Report Property Tax Information. TurboTax will generate Form PTC.

The Nebraska Property Tax Incentive Act provides a refundable income tax credit (credit) or credit against franchise tax imposed on financial institutions for any taxpayer who pays school district property taxes.

2022 TurboTax Windows Desktop Premier software  > 2022 Nebraska PTC Form > Nebraska Return > Taxes and Credits > Continue > Other State Tax Credit > Nebraska allows a credit for income taxes paid to another state. The income taxed by the other state must be earned in that state, and also taxed by Nebraska. Does this apply to you?  YES or NO     There is a software error, i.e., the tax credit is buried in the tab   Other State Tax Credit and this IS NOT income taxes paid to another state but a property tax credit paid to Nebraska school districts by Nebraska.

If you answer  YES, then you will find the proper questions that are required to answer for the tax credit.

I don't understand your point. The Nebraska Property Tax Incentive is not under Other State Tax Credits.

Yes it is,  in Windows Desktop Premier version if you   select YES    to the Other State Tax credits!!   If you    select NO    then you will not find the correct questions and entries!!    ERROR in the software we discovered when I was online with a support agent!!!!!
