I'm entering my commuting miles to and from work but it keeps telling me I'm exceeding the miles entered. Any suggestions on how I can fix this?

odometer reading 68755 in beginning and ending 77733 then it asks how many miles for job from 1/1/22-6/30/22 then 7/1-22-12/31/22; then it asks what was you total commuting miles and what was your round trip average daily commute but when I eneter my miles it keeps telling me I exceed the total miles driven.

From the odometer reading, you indicate you drove 8978 miles in 2022.  Of those 8978 miles, how many were business miles compared to personal miles? You can only deduct miles related to your business. This excludes any commuting miles.

Because the standard mileage rate changed mid-year, you have to indicate how many business miles you drove during the first half of the year and how many in the second half.

Your total commuting miles should be a portion of that 8978 miles driven during the year.

Your total business miles from the year, plus your commuting miles, plus any personal miles can not exceed 8978 miles.

@goldenivonne88 You are not posting from Self-Employed.  If you are not self-employed, you cannot deduct mileage on your federal return for anything.   W-2 employees cannot deduct job-related expenses on a federal return.

W-2 employees cannot deduct job-related expenses on a federal return.  Job-related expenses were eliminated as a federal deduction for W-2 employees by the tax laws that changed for 2018 and beyond.  Your state tax laws might be different in AL, AR, CA, HI, MN, NY or PA.
