I entered my real estate taxes in the home office deduction interview area. Now, on my schedule A line 6, approximately twice the actual real estate taxes shows as a deduction. Schedule C, form 8829 correctly calculates the home office portion of the prop

I went through this process in Turbo Tax, the online self employed version; I am not sure which version you are using. There are multiple ways to enter the real estate taxes in to the business use of home section. I entered in my square footage and entered in the entire expense. I also went to the deductions and credits section for itemized deductions and entered in the entire expense under the real estate tax category. When I looked at the Form 1040, it calculated the Schedule A deduction correctly and there wasnt any doubling up. You might want to retrace your steps in the business use of home section as well as the deductions and credits section to see if you can determine what happened.

Thanks for the response. After going back to the dialogues for both the home office deduction and personal deductions and removing property tax in both places, TurboTax was still telling me I had property tax.  So, I had to go to the Tax and Interest deduction worksheet and delete the amount in line 2A.  Once I did this and then reentered the tax amount in the home office area, TurboTax correctly calculated the property tax deduction in the personal deductions section.

This is actually a serious bug,and it still is there for TurboTax H&B 2017. "Enter the Property Taxes You Paid" shows you the amount you paid the previous year and a zero for the current tax year, even if you've already entered the number elsewhere. It looks like you should enter the number in the box, according to the instructions. But if you enter the number in the box, your taxes get deducted twice.

The sheet is under Personal / Deductions & Credits
