I don't understand where I'd get form 8889-T from

Who provides the 1099-SA to me?

I don't understand where I'd get form 8889-T from

The people who hold your HSA Money.

In my case its Fidelity.  Go online to your provider. and download the 1099-SA as a PDF.

Form 8889 is something Turbo Tax will create for you electronically, when its available.

Right now, I think the wait is at least a few more days, perhaps into Feb.

I'm not sure how to answer some of the questions posed as they do not appear to apply to us.  And there is also not appear to be a way to go back during review.

The HSA is handled in 3 parts in the TT program :

First the contribution:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/4785646

Next the limitations screen to confirm you are eligible to make the contributions:

Until you complete the HSA portion of the TurboTax interview to establish your eligibility for an HSA contribution, TurboTax will treat the amount entered on the W-2 form as an excess HSA contribution.

And lastly any distribution:

Bill, the insight was helpful however the Form 8889T appears to have incorrect information that is populating the form.

For example, on line 9, within the "smart worksheet" of turbotax, the is data on lines B and D that I cannot trace. Info regarding amounts employer paid me in 2020 for tax year 2019 and info paid for me in 2021 for tax year 2020.

Where is turbotax picking this data up from? It is not on the W-2. I did auto import my 1099 though but when reviewing the input no Information is provided on the above. Frustrating.  Thanks! @BillM223

8889-refers to the TAXPAYER  so look at the taxpayer's W-2 forms box 12  and review the entries in the program ... is there a code W with an amount ?    Did you make a data entry error in the HSA section ?

Thanks for response, Critter-3. It appears I entered data as "estimate" when I extended my return (doh!). I'm a Mac user. Now I cannot move forward because I'm unable to "unmark estimate" once I deleted my temporary value.

Any tips on "unmark estimate". It isn't even a grayed out choice on my 'edit' menu. @Critter-3

Turbo tax is asking me for an amount off of form 8889.  However, I have no idea.
