If you received a W2 and the box for a statutory employee is checked in box 13 then yes, you can claim business expenses.

If you only receive a W2 and the statutory box is not checked, then you are not considered by the IRS to be a contractor employee which means you could not claim any business expenses.

Did you also receive a Form 1099-MISC? Or just a W2?

Also... education expenses for certification and ski equipment?

If just W2, then nothing is deductible under the new tax laws.

Thank you.   What about education expenses towards teaching?

No.  Unless you are working on a degree, then you could enter your expenses and see if you qualify for the lifetime learning credit
