So, I have no idea how to fill out the form 8962. I was covered in my fathers plan from Jan 2019-April 2019. Late December 2018 I got married, but still decided to stay on the same health plan. He filed his taxes without the 1095-a. Which makes this a bit more confusing for me. I'm now filing with my husband and daughter, but we now have TriCare. How do I file the 8962 form, while I'm no longer a dependent on my father's taxes and now I'm filing with my husband?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You need to enter the form 1095-A information in TurboTax and that will generate the form 8962.
Since you already file your tax return, you need to choose the "Amend Return" option on your home page in TurboTax to get back into your return. Once you are finished and have printed out the form 8962, there is an option to cancel the amendment if you want, but it is not necessary.
To enter the form 1095-A information in TurboTax, do the following:
1. In the Federal section of TurboTax, go to the "Deductions and Credits" section
2. Find the "Medical" section, then click on "Affordable Care Act (form 1095-A)"
3. Enter the information from the form 1095-A
4. You'll see an option to indicate that you shared the policy with someone else, click on that option
5. You'll have an option to enter your parent's social security number and indicate what percentage of the premiums belong to you
When you are done, print out the form 8962 and mail it to the IRS along with your form 1095-A.
Thank you for your response!
Is this still possible if I didn't file on TurboTax?
Unfortunately, if you did not file with TurboTax , you cannot use TurboTax just to file your form 1095-A and fill in form 8962 as TurboTax does not have your tax return on file.
I for a notice from IRS not long ago requesting these forms. Do you know the address where I need to send them? If it makes a difference, I live in Indiana.
Thank you

The IRS letter should include an address for where to mail and a fax phone number
