I contributed more than the allowed amount to my HSA in 2018. Before the end of the year, I asked my HSA bank to return the excess funds to me, bringing me back within the limit.
Now I find out that this return was coded as a "contribution correction" as opposed to "excess contribution correction". This type of correction isn't shown on the 1099-SA, apparently (and the HSA bank is refusing to code it as such).
My W2 reflects the amount I originally contributed, and since I left that employer before I asked for the excess funds to be returned to me, I shouldn't need a corrected W2, should I?
How do I reconcile my W2 and 1099-SA showing an overcontribution when I did in fact get those overcontributed funds back, I just have no record of that in my W2 or 1099-SA?
