My wife got a 1099-NEC as worked the company but this company closed at Jul 2022. So my wife started homebase self-employment business(Jul ~ Dec 2022). I am inputted startup costs just homebase business deduction, but I reviewed final report. It was deducted both 1099 and homebase business.($10,000)
How do I fix it for correct report?

Go back and review your entry of the 1099-NEC. If you checked the box for sporadic income by mistake, this would allow you to enter expenses. But if this was for a self-employed business, you should have checked that none of the uncommon situations apply. Changing this selection should remove the duplicated expenses from your return. The correct place to record this income and the startup costs is on Schedule C under Business Income and Expenses.
Both income is QBI. I am set start date for new self-employment Home business.
Also 1099-NEC section doesn't have any Startup Cost Icon and checked step by step both schedule C.
1099-NEC's Schedule C wasn't checked Startup cost(H) but 27a, deducted $5,000. I think it is SW calculation bug. Must separate expense each income section.
You should be fix SW bug. I don't want to pay few hundred dollars by your bug.
Please fix ASAP.
Or triple charged…
There is a bug in the SW that, when you start a new line of business, the interactive ‚tour’ allows you to enter startup cost and asks, how much you want to deduct (up to $5000).
Beware- these $5000 will stay in the background, even if you remove/ delete that line of business (e.g. because you made a mistake and want to start over.
because, if you start over and enter the $5000, you will suddenly see- you already guessed it- $10,000 as an expense you can not correct or delete anymore.
I have shown this to TT CS agent and she just outright denied there was a problem.
In my despair, I deleted all self-employment and started again….. not a good idea, because you will end up with $15,000 in expenses….
This is a nightmare. I was tempted to start the entire thing from scratch- but what if the number will just show up again and again???
