I have Foreign Earned Income and have taken the exclusion. In Form 1116, Line 12, an explanation is required. I have added "See the attached worksheet".
I want to be certain TT will include the worksheet with the filing.
Thanks,
Monte

To clarify, are you taking a foreign tax credit in addition to the exclusion? If so, are you claiming a foreign tax credit for income in excess of $108,700?
Yes. Income is excluded, the foreign tax is adjusted to reflect this, and that adjusted amount is claimed as a tax credit.
All of these calculations were performed by TT and are reflected in the worksheet. As long as the worksheet is included with the electronic filing, there should be no confusion. Thus my question.
All worksheets are not submitted to the IRS as these are used for your own records. You need to keep these worksheets however with your tax return in case if there is an IRS examination of your return. in fact if you look at the worksheet, it should say in small letters keep for your records.
Thanks.
The logic escapes me that TT does not explicitly include the basis of the calculation in the submission -- when Form 1116 CLEARLY states that an explanation is required -- and when TT specifically requires that an explanation be provided in the questionnaire!
Naturally, saving the entirety of the TT work product only makes sense.
We'll see if the IRS questions it.
I appreciate your responses.
