Does the child tax credit change with a 1099 and a W2?

I was under the impression that the child tax credit would be the same for a W2 and a 1099 with similar incomes.

The Child Tax Credit is calculated using your Modified Gross Income, so the type of form that the income is reported on would not matter, as long as it didn't push you over the income limits allowed before the credit starts to phase out.
