Didn’t Get Added Recovery Rebate

I never received the third stimulus check in March of 2021 so I don’t understand why it was taken out of my refund.

LOTS of people have made mistakes this year with the recovery rebate credit by "forgetting" that they received the $1400 per person stimulus checks last year.  They answered no to the questions for the  recovery recovery rebate credit and put the $1400 per person on line 30 of their returns.  But you cannot get it twice, so the IRS removes it when it is there by mistake.

Try checking your online account with the IRS

Does the IRS show that you received a $1400 stimulus or EIP check in 2021?   Did you receive it?   When you were asked on your tax return did you say no?   Was there $1400 on line 30 of your tax return?

If the IRS says you got $1400 last year but you did not receive it you can have it traced.

Thanks for the links. I checked the pages for my Economic Impact Information. It shows that I have $0.00 for both 2020 stimulus checks (I received those payments in my 2020 returns) but it shows I have $1400.00 for my 2021 stimulus. I’m just confused on exactly what this means in terms of why the $1400 was taken out of my refund this year.

The IRS sent you the 1,400 3rd Stimulus payment but you tried to get it again on your tax return on line 30.    Did you get a deposit for it back starting in March 2021?  Double check your bank statements.

Sounds like you failed to include the $1,400.00 on the Tax year 2021 tax return.  There is a question that asked you if you received the $1,400.00 and if you put $0 then it was calculated as a part of your expected refund.

When IRS received the return, they matched the information and found that you had received the Third Stimulus and therefore reduced your expected refund.

As this is speculation based on your question. the IRS will follow-up with a Explanation of Adjustment Notice in a few weeks.

No I never received the third stimulus, only the first two when I filed for my 2020 taxes. 

And yes I did file to receive the Recovery Rebate. When I received my refund this morning the stimulus amount was taken out.

If the IRS thinks they sent it to you but you didn't get it request a trace for a missing third Stimulus payment
