You can if you have receipts for all the sales taxes paid in 2023.
To enter your sales taxes
Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Deductions and Credits
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
On Sales Taxes, click the start or update button
However, Sales taxes are entered as an itemized deduction on Schedule A. There is a limit to the amount of taxes Sales Taxes or State Income taxes, whichever is greater will be used. The limit is $10,000 ($5,000 if married filing separately)
The total of all your itemized deductions on Schedule A must be greater than the standard deduction for your filing status to have any tax benefit.
Standard deductions for 2023
Single - $13,850 add $1,850 if age 65 or older
Married Filing Separately - $13,850 add $1,500 if age 65 or older
Married Filing Jointly - $27,700 add $1,500 for each spouse age 65 or older
Head of Household - $20,800 add $1,850 if age 65 or older
You can deduct sales tax or state income taxes but not both. You have the option of entering your actual sales tax paid if you have the receipts or estimate the sales tax paid based on you income. Turbo Tax will do the estimate for you. If you do the estimate and you bought an expensive item or two during the year, like a car or boat, the sales tax on these items can be added to the estimated value.
