I was reviewing my 1099-DIV and there was a question about whether any portion of it came from government bonds because it may be deductible in my state return. I initially thought that I had found some dividends like that so I checked the box and entered the amount. Later, after further review, I determined that the dividend was not actually from government sources so I unchecked the box.
Unfortunately, that information never gets changed in the MN state return and it tries to deduct the amount no matter what I do. After deleting the original import files and reimporting them, it still didn't fix the MN state return. Finally, I had to delete the entire state return and, just in case, I deleted the imported data, reimported it again, and made sure that the box wasn't checked.
Once I started the state return from scratch, it no longer had the bad data.
Someone needs to fix the bug.
