Hello!
We filed our taxes in 2021 with turbo tax (as we have since at least 2015). My wife got a HYBRID car that year, NOT A PLUGIN! One of the questions while doing our taxes was did you purchase a new vehicle, so I answered yes (cause we did). The program then asked me to put in the VIN number (which I did) and then told me that there was a credit for the vehicle. Great we thought! Fast forward to 4 days ago (3/14/2024). We received a letter from the IRS asking for clarification about our plug in vehicle. I requested assistance with a phone call and was advised to amend the return. Now the program is telling us that we owe $6587.00 to the feds. I'm assuming that there will be fees and interest, cause the IRS loves them! My question, among others is this: The program said several times that there were no errors and double checked everything ALSO that it "100% calculations Guaranteed" . We did NOT get the audit defense. So, will the wife and I be (once we know all fees, interest, penalties, surcharges, import/export fees, taxes etc) Reimbursed for this error from Turbo Tax? I would really like to keep using this service...but if we are going to be out of pocket for ALL costs, we will be very VERY upset, to say the least.

Well, I hoped that my claim would be granted and we would at least get back fees and the rest however, we were denied. So we are out everything. The wife and I are VERY VERY upset (frankly im pissed off to no end!) after being customers for over 10 yrs. The excuse was that the program calculated everything correctly. My argument is that it was WRONG in giving us the deduction in the 1st place, but they didnt like that. WE will NEVER EVER AGAIN use a Intuit product again. Also, I will recommend to everyone I know (and a personal opinion at my job if anyone asks me about the product: Costco) that they NOT buy it ever again. This message is a few months after we were declined in our claim. I also suspect that once this is seen, they will remove my post. I however will not be checking. Intuit, you are total jerks. have a lovely day.
Re-read the question. It asks if you bought an electric vehicle. Not a vehicle.
It sounds like you misinterpreted the question about an electric vehicle or "plug-in" and did not understand the difference between a plug-in and a hybrid. That was a user error.
