$1200 Credit?

@judith11 The  IRSis cross checking every tax return with an amount on line 30---so if you should not get the recovery rebate credit, the IRS is going to catch it and reduce your refund.  You do NOT amend for this.   You just have to wait for the IRS to process your return.  Every return with an amount for the recovery rebate credit is being looked at.   LOTS of people made mistakes with it, so that is one of the reasons the IRS is so backlogged.  Do not amend.

 

 

 As of June 23, 2021, we had 17.5 million unprocessed individual returns in the pipeline. Unprocessed returns include tax year 2020 returns such as those requiring correction to the Recovery Rebate Credit amount or validation of 2019 income used to figure the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). This work does not require us to correspond with taxpayers but does require special handling by an IRS employee so, in these instances, it is taking the IRS more than 21 days to issue any related refund. If, as a result, a correction is made to any RRC, EITC or ACTC claimed on the return, the IRS will send taxpayers an explanation. Taxpayers are encouraged to continue to check Where’s My Refund? for their personalized refund status and can review Tax Season Refund Frequently Asked Questions.

How long you may have to wait: The IRS understands the importance of timely processing of tax returns and refund issuance. We have processed all error free returns received prior to 2021, and continue to work the returns that need to be manually reviewed due to errors.  We are rerouting tax returns and taxpayer correspondence from locations that are behind to locations where more staff is available, and we are taking other actions to minimize any delays. Tax returns are opened and processed in the order received. As the return is processed, it may be delayed because it has a mistake including errors concerning the Recovery Rebate Credit, is missing information, or there is suspected identity theft or fraud. If we can fix it without contacting you, we will. If we need more information or need you to verify that it was you who sent the tax return, we will write you a letter. The resolution of these issues depends on how quickly and accurately you respond, and the ability of IRS staff trained and working under social distancing requirements to complete the processing of your return.

What you should do: If you filed electronically and received an acknowledgement, you do not need to take any further action other than promptly responding to any requests for information. If you filed on paper, check Where’s my refund? If it tells you we have received your return or are processing or reviewing it, we are processing your return, but it may be under review. We’re working hard to get through the backlog. Please don’t file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.

$1200 Credit?

Well, that makes me feel a little better.  I was so careful when I entered the info on my stimulus payments, yet those who replied here made me feel like I had made the mistake, when it was the TT software.  TurboTax should give us a credit next year to make up for their mistake.  It caused me weeks of anguish and worry.

I also filed my 2020 taxes and entered all the information that they asked me about the stimulus payments and I was also showing to get a credit when I actually received my stimulus it really made no sense I read the support information on to into its website and they told me to amend my taxes so I did and now I’m having to wait 16 weeks that’s not until October that I’m old and not even going to see my federal tax return paid out to me which is almost $5000 without the credits and TurboTax is now asking me to pay them when I’m supposed to pay them out of my federal taxes it is their suggestion and requirement to file an amended tax return so they should be waiting until I’m paid that federal tax return to take payment from it not making me for cover over $200 to pay for my taxes being done when I haven’t been paid putAnd it’s their mistake that the credit was issued in the first place I did my taxes every year with TurboTax never had an issue until now because after I even amend the tax return it never changed

@jaimelynnwood    The IRS is checking every return that has an amount on line 30 of the  Form 1040.  Amending was unnecessary.    The IRS will recalculate your refund and reduce the refund by the amount of stimulus money you already received.    Millions of 2020 refunds have been delayed----many for exactly this reason since so many people answered questions about the recovery rebate incorrectly---every return with an amount on line 30 requires special handling.   So that is likely why you have not yet received your refund.   

 

As for the fees-----sounds like you are receiving emails to pay your TurboTax fees because the refund is delayed.   You agreed to that when you chose to pay from your refund.  There is a number on the emails that you can call to ask for a delay for the auto debit.

 

Did you choose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund?  Is your refund taking an unusually long time to arrive?  Or was your refund seized to pay a debt you owed? if so, you signed an agreement that says TT can withdraw its fees from your account.  TurboTax would have sent several emails to you before they took the money out of your account.
