I need help with my daughter's 1098t. Box one includes room and board and an enrollment deposit in addition to tuition paid. Do I report what box 1 says even if its incorrect or do I just calculate what my records say? Also is an enrollment deposit a qualified expense since its a condition of her enrollment?

Enter the information as it appears on the form.  Was the enrollment deposit not applied towards (as a reduction to) tuition?  If it was, wouldn't that be reflected in the amount of tuition paid?  If not, it would be an expense required as a condition of enrollment and would be a qualified expense.
