I live in St. Louis city and required to pay 1% of my income in a "city" tax". Can I somehow claim that when filing for federal or state? I don't think I could.

Yes, you can.

It's a local income tax.

To deduct it in Turbo Tax:

  1. Go to Deductions & Credits

  2. Select I'll choose what I work on. 

  3. Go down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid

  4. Select Start or Update by Other Income Taxes

  5. Choose a situation that most closely matches your local tax paid.
