same issue, turbo tax needs to automatically populate this field, otherwise many will be amending returns if they don't populate this field using the capital loss carryover worksheet
Ca Sch D Line 6 comes from Fed Sch D line 6 previous years tax. I had to pay a real CPA $50 to learn that since I could not get an answer from TT.
You have to start your state return and that will field will be populated when you return to it.
The California Capital Loss Carryover can be found on your Federal 1040 Schedule D, Line 6 from your 2018 return.
Great advice. This worked out well on my 2022 tax form. TT ought to tell us this so we don't spend so much time or worse enter the wrong information.
Thanks Again
As indicated by Dunk4, I have found that it auto populated in the Fed question form when a Loss value is entered in the CA state Loss Carryover form. A problem occurs when there was a Fed carryover but not a CA state carryover for the previous year. In this case, the California Capital Loss Carryover Worksheet is not generated for the previous year and you left confused as to what to do, because there is no CA carryover amount to enter and TurboTax want's a value. I finally entered zero and everything seemed happy. On previous years when a California Capital Loss Carryover Worksheet was created, I think the form's value from line 8 was auto populated.
