What is the NY State and NY City household credit?

Both credits can by claimed on your New York tax return.

New York State Household credit

You are entitled to this nonrefundable credit if you:
  • cannot be claimed as a dependent on another individual's federal income tax return, and
  • Single and your federal AGI is $28,000 or less; or
  • Married filing jointly (MFJ); Qualifying widow(er) with dependent child (QW); or Head of household with qualifying person (HoH) and your federal AGI is $32,000 or less.

If you are single, the credit amount is up to $75.

If you are MFJ, QW, or HoH, the credit is $20 to $90, plus an additional $5 to $15 based on the number of dependents listed on Form IT-201, item H (Form IT-203, item I) plus one for you (and one for your spouse if Married filing joint return).


New York City Household Credit

You are entitled to this non-refundable credit if you:

  • cannot be claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer's federal income tax return,
  • are a resident or part-year resident of New York City, and
  • meet the income limitations for your filing status: 
    • Single  $12,500 or less
    • MFJ, QW, or HoH -  $22,500 or less
If you are single, the credit amount is up to $15.

If you are MFJ, QW, or HoH, the credit is $10 to $30, plus an additional $10 to $30 based on the number of dependents listed on Form IT-201, item H (Form IT-203 item I) plus one for you (and one for your spouse if Married filing joint return)

What is the NY State and NY City household credit?

Can you tell me why I don't see this credit on my tax return? There is no where to be found on the available credit. Is it something I entered wrong?

@okaycheese  If you have an income that qualifies for the credit - NYC $12,500 single -is the most you could have earned and qualify and you are not seeing the credit on your return, then please use the following link for a customer support number.
