Hi Community!!
I am filing a partial residency in California for 2021, 33 days in total, as I moved out of state in early Feb. I know this affects the amount of state taxes I pay ( or are returned to me). I am collecting Unemployment and soon Paid Family Leave through California and I want to make sure that declaring partial residency does not affect my Unemployment or PFL status. Basically want to make sure I am not unintentionally changing my SDI contribution.
Thanks!!

Your SDI contribution is based on your California wages. Collecting unemployment and paid family leave will not impact your SDI contribution because you are no longer contributing to SDI.
Your eligibility and amount of unemployment and PFL is based on your past earnings. This amounts will not change.
How Unemployment Insurance Benefits Are Computed
Thanks. As a follow up, if I am filing a partial residency in CA ( 33 days) but worked a CA based job for approx 6 months affect or alter my CA SDI tax after that fact? I want to make sure I am not negitively affect my current UI claim and future PFL claim by reducing the amount of money I am paying into SDI.
Thanks.
I’m understanding your question. If you work, your will either be ineligible to collect unemployment or your weekly benefit will be reduced during the week you work.
You can use the Unemployment Benefits calculator to estimate your benefits.
I appreciate the help, Ernie. Let me try a different approach to my question.
When I file a partial residency in California, I receive money back, presumibly tax paid to the state, identified in box 17 of my W-2. Is any of that returned money represented from box 14, my CASDI contribution? I want to make sure the California still has the asme amount of money in box 14 even if I file partial residency as I inted to file UI and PFL and don't want that jeapardized.
Thanks
Box 17 is state income tax withheld. It has nothing to do with the PFL in box 14.
