Dear Sir, I filed Virginia State Tax electronically thru Inuit Turbo Tax. I filed for tax refund on my foreign passive income ( retirement benefit in India). Turbo Tax advised me prior to filing that VA will ask you to send proof of tax payment in India. I did receive their letter and was late in sumitting the same.
Now they are not considering that. When I contacted them , they gave this reply
"Thank you for submitting your inquiry through our secure message site. Your 2024 return was adjusted to disallow the Foreign Sourced Retirement Income credit as claimed on the Schedule CR as your income was not from foreign retirement based on the documents you submitted. As a result of the adjustment, there is a balance due of $69.92. If we can be of further assistance, please contact us."
Please advice.
Thanks

You used TT to prepare a state return. TT provided you with information regarding the specific state and that the state would be requesting information from you. The state did exactly what TT said it would do. Instead of complying in a timely manner with the state's request, you did not comply. So the state disallowed a credit or refund you wanted. TurboTax does not receive any information from the state after you file your tax return, nor can TT intercede with the state on your behalf. It sounds like you need to pay the state $69.92---and next time you are supposed to comply with a request from the state, remember that failure to comply will cost you something.
