Hello. I am filing my taxes for the second year as a travel nurse. SC withheld a good chunk for taxes based off my income, but now I am getting a negative amount almost the same for NC? I made $0 in NC this year. Not sure Why this happened/if this is normal? This was not the case last year.

Please clarify your question. You said you lived part-time in North and South Carolina but also say you made $0 in North Carolina.
Were you a part-year resident of North and South Carolina?
Are you filing NC and SC returns?
On what return are you seeing a negative amount? Is this in the refund box or elsewhere.
Sorry, to clarify all my income was from SC. I worked a few hours at a gym and made less than $200 in NC. Working in SC as a travel nurse, I spent half the week down there all year. I was entering in my W2, and when I did I had a negative NC tax refund of a few thousand, but none of my income was made in NC.
The negative refund means TurboTax is saying you owe tax to North Carolina.
If you worked in North Carolina you have NC taxable income. Generally, you will have to file a NC nonresident return if you are required to file a federal return.
See Individual Income Filing Requirements
The amount you owe is probably a lot less than a few thousand. TurboTax’s NC section allows you to split your income. Report only your gym income and the half week’s work in NC.
On “Wages Allocation” Not NC Source Income should be your total income – SC income for that W-2.
South Carolina will give you credit for tax paid to NC.
