The majority of Nebraska forms are not scheduled to be available in TurboTax until 1/26/2023. Note that this is an estimate, so please follow this link (State Forms Availability) for any updates on the schedule. Until that date, the results for the state forms can be unpredictable and should say "DO NOT FILE" on them.
And wait until the 26th to come back to work on it..soemtiemes it's late on the 26th.
The place where the NE subtraction of that Military retirement pay occurs, may either be a part of the 1099-R Q&A in the Federal section...or as a part of the Q&A in the NE tax section. You may have to go thru both before you find it.
The 40% SSA reduction is likely automatic....once it's implemented in the final forms.
Received the Nebraska update to TT today 1/26. It has all the calculations correct, but the info about NE tax rules is still not fully updated. Case in point: the 2021 explanation for social security exclusion (5%) is still linked to the Data Source info accessible from the forms view. The actual exclusion for 2022 is 40% of that portion of SS income included in Federal AGI. The actual calculation of SS exclusion is handled correctly. The explanation for exclusion of military retired pay is correctly updated, but the program does require manual entry of the amount requested rather than drawing it from the appropriate 1099-R.
How/where is the manual entry done in order to get the military retirement pay exclusion?
In the State tax module for Nebraska select Adjustments, then select Adjustments Decreasing Federal Income. the long list includes Military Retirement Exclusion. Enter the amount claimed as the exclusion. That's it!
