Does Turbo Tax account for WI subtraction for Long Term Care Insurance premiums on the WI income tax form?

The amount of long term care insurance premiums should be listed on line 11 of Wisconsin Form 1. However, you must first enter the insurance premiums on your federal Schedule A so that they will carry over to your state return. You must do so even if you are claiming the standard deduction on your federal return.

Please view page 17, in the link below to see the instructions for Wisconsin Form1.

Does Turbo Tax account for WI subtraction for Long Term Care Insurance premiums on the WI income tax form?

When doing the federal tax, I get to the description "Medical Care Insurance"

I use the last option for Employee or Unemployed to enter my Medicare Insurance.

At the top, I find the following:

Caution:

Do NOT include:

pre-tax ...

Long-term care insurance <<<<<<<<<<<

etc.

So, the form said DON'T include long-term care insurance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does Turbo Tax account for WI subtraction for Long Term Care Insurance premiums on the WI income tax form?

Hi new member,

I just had to figure this one out today myself. This is something that has to be done a specific way when filing for WI. I promise if you follow what this article says you will be able to enter the long term care numbers where you are supposed to so you can finish filing your taxes. The article is "Where do I enter my long term care premiums?"

Here is the link and I hope this helps: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/entering-importing/help/where-do-i-enter-my-long-term-care-premium...

Where do I enter my LTC pemium for a WI tax deduction?

Does Turbo Tax account for WI subtraction for Long Term Care Insurance premiums on the WI income tax form?

Your long-term care insurance is entered on your federal tax return and carried to your Wisconsin return.

You do not enter long-term care on your Wisconsin return.

The steps to enter long-term care premiums paid are:

  • Federal
  • Deductions and Credits
  • Medical Expenses
  • Go to screen Tell us about anything paid for long-term care services and enter total spent on premiums
  • Continue

TurboTax will carry the amount to your Wisconsin return.
