That's good advice @NJ999 . I was on the phone with support for over an hour, too. They said it was an issue with the Michigan form. More research on my part confirmed the original reply to me issue in that I am able to submit my return by mail - which is what I did as I too do not have much more time to try to figure this out.
I was on the phone for over an hour with turbo tax support and got nowhere. The support person was very nice and even had me set up remote access for them. In the end, no progress. Very disappointing.
Having the same problem with a Massachusetts 1065 partnership return.
Massachusetts requires all partnership returns to be efiled as of this year, but this error in TurboTax means that I cannot efile.
Also having the same issue with 1065 for MA right now. I have two LLC's to file. One went through tonight while the other had the DCN error message. Main difference between the two was the LLC that went through has been filed in previous years. The one with the error message was set up in 2021 and filing for the first time. Connection ? Do not know....
My advice is to
I ended up filing by mail. My state treasury office confirmed that I was eligible anyhow without special permission. I am not sure if they contacted TurboTax because I submitted by mail and have not returned to the software.
Good luck everyone!
I called TurboTax support today. They sent me this link showing they are working on the dcn issue. You can sign up for status updates.
Phone support is not helpful. They just route you through a circular automated bot loop
I am running into the same issue with Texas state filing
Despite what the Turbotax rep says, you can't file your corporate taxes by mail in NJ. You can, however, file directly with the state at https://www.njportal.com/Taxation/CBT/. Of course, you have to manually enter in all the data. Turbotax should also refund the $55 they charged for software that doesn't work.
I am having same issue trying to efile Louisiana partnership. I really have no choice but to mail it in even though it is not allowed. TT dropped the ball big time this year.
same bs error for (TX) texas franchise report. Dcn has too many characters
I found a work-around, based on a theory...
As I understand it, the DCN is an IRS-assigned value. It is only assigned/received when the IRS accepts the efiling of the federal tax form.
In my case, I e-filed the federal form a day before I attempted (and failed, due to this "DCN has too many characters" error) to e-file my state.
It only took the IRS about 20 minutes to accept my e-filed federal copy. At which point, I think I was hosed. The DCN assigned by the IRS is too long to fit into whatever (invisible) blank in the state form TurboTax wants to fill in. And thus the error.
The workaround? Painful: open a new turbotax file from scratch. Re-enter all your data. Compare the data carefully with your first one. (I printed PDFs from both files, and compared, and iterated.) Then, using the new file, e-file only to the state. It worked, at least for me...
