My advice is to
- File by mail if you can
- If you can't file by mail, contact someone at your state treasury office and explain the situation and request permission to file by mail - I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly they responded and how helpful they were here in Michigan.
- Michigan requires tax software companies to provide e-filing for all state forms. When I contacted Michigan about, they said they would contact TurboTax directly and let them know they needed to fix the situation.
- At the same time talk to TurboTax support again and mention that this is not an isolated issue and they may want to spend some time on it instead of deflecting 🙂 The more people that call the more likely they are to do something I suppose.
I ended up filing by mail. My state treasury office confirmed that I was eligible anyhow without special permission. I am not sure if they contacted TurboTax because I submitted by mail and have not returned to the software.
