I started a single member LLC in Rhode Island in 2021. The tax designation is "disregarded as an entity separate from its member(s)" thus I file my taxes as a sole proprietor, with a schedule C. I have entered that info in my federal return, but Turbotax is not generating the necessary RI-1065 form in my state return. Rhode Island requires a minimum corporate tax of $400 regardless of income. I had no income for my Schedule C and minor start-up expenses.
How do I get this form to show up?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
TurboTax does not support that form. You might want to try the Division of Taxation web site.
TurboTax is supposed to be “the tax experts.” This is a very common form.
It may be common within the state, but TurboTax does not support it (most likely due to low demand).
Same! I had no idea this existed after using TurboTax for years & now owe multiple years worth of back taxes and penalties! Please add this form-- the instructions available online are terrible and don't even provide corresponding Federal or State tax form lines from where to get the information.
@Miriad9 Assuming you figured this out, but I just learned that if the RI-1065 is solely for the $400 minimum tax, the only sections that need to be filled out are as follows:
> First box w/ Federal EIN/SSN, RI Secretary of State ID, Taxable Year, Name, Address, Email, NAICS
> Initial Return (check box)
> Entity Type = LLC (check box)
> Line 7a = 400
> Line 8a = 400
> At top of subsequent pages (2-4), complete Name & Federal EIN/SSN
> At bottom of page 3, sign & complete Name, Date, Phone (or complete preparers details)
When complete. print all pages of form RI-1065, as well as RI-1065V (payment voucher, self-explanatory to complete), then enclose printed forms, $400 check, & send to RI Division of Taxation. Good luck with your LLC! (:
@disco76 thank you so much. I did indeed figure it out; I called the RI Dept of Taxation and they were very helpful. What a relief to find out how simple it was after lots of frustration.
I appreciate your feedback, cheers!
