Reason for amending state return

I realized that some dividends should have been indicated as coming from US government sources and would be non-taxable at the state level. I have to now amend my state return, and it asks if the reason for amending state is because of a change in the federal return. My federal return has not changed (and I would not file an amended federal return), but the 1099-DIV  change from US government sources goes in the federal portion of Turbotax. Does this mean that the reason for amending the state is due to a change in the federal return? Thank you!

Reason for amending state return

No. Do not say you are changing state because of a change in federal.

A change in the federal return means what it says – you are amending because your federal changed either because IRS made a change, or you did.

As you said, your federal tax will not change because of US government source income. That’s 100% taxed by the US government.

Saying that you are amending because of a federal change may delay processing of your state amended return because the state will be looking for an amended federal return to confirm the change.
