Nebraska Property Tax Credit Form PTC for 2022

I am trying to efile my Nebraska State Income tax return and am taking a Property Tax Credit on the PTC form.  This form requires that the Parcel ID for Lancaster County include the dashes on the form per the Nebraska PTC Form Instructions.  However, the Turbotax software will not allow the efile when the dashes are included on the form.  How can this be fixed so I can efile my Nebraska State Taxes?

You may need to leave off the last three zeros when you enter your parcel number.

Nebraska Property Tax Credit Form PTC for 2022

CatinaT1,

The instructions for the Nebraska PTC form are located below.  It clearly states in the instructions that parcels in Lancaster county need to include the dashes and zeros.  Even in the entry screen in Turbo takes is states to include the dashes.  I believe that there is a software error in Turbo Tax since the parcel IDs in Lancaster county are longer than 10 digits.  As I am getting an efile error that the parcel IDs can only be 10 digits long, but that is not what the instructions state.

Nebraska Property Tax Credit Form PTC for 2022

The Nebraska Property Tax Credit Form PTC for 2022 requires the Parcel ID for Lancaster County, which is a 13 digit number.  However, when I attempt to use TurboTax to actually efile the TurboTax gives me an error message that says the Parcel ID can only be 10 digits long and therefore will not complete the efile process.  It seems to be a bug in the TurboTax software, and yet I have  found no way around this problem.  After spending $25 to enable an efile, I would like to be able to complete the process.  Has anyone found a way around this problem?

I see the problem and may have a solution other than mailing.

The NE instructions show an example on page 28 and states: "The parcel ID number entered on Form PTC for parcels located in Lancaster County must include the dashes. The parcel ID numbers for the other 92 counties have either 9 or 10 digits and no dashes."

When you go to the Lincoln parcel lookup, you will see there is a long number and an abbreviated number available. The dash seems required so drop the P instead.

Nebraska Property Tax Credit Form PTC for 2022

AmyC,

Thanks for giving a look at my problem with TurboTax and attempting to do a state efile for Lancaster County Nebraska and request an allowed state Property Tax Credit.  The Lancaster County Assessor's site that you included in your response, and which seemed to hold out the hope that there was a shorten version of Lancaster County 13-digit (plus 4 dashes) Property ID, is I believe a copy of a generic Nebraska state property parcel search page.  As best as I can tell all other 92 Nebraska counties have either a 9 or 10-digit Property Parcel ID and that was what was offered as an alternative example on the generic search page.  However, Lancaster County has a 13-digit, plus required 4 dashes Property Parcel ID (total of 17-digits) and when I try to use that in the TurboTax I get caught up in a TurboTax error loop noting that the ID can only be 10-digits.  Therefore, TurboTax will not allow me to complete the state efile.  Any other suggestions that would allow me to complete my state efile would be appreciated.

AmyC and others:

I believe that I have found the answer to my problem in attempting to efile my Nebraska state return and it appears to be successful.  I will provide my solution here for others who may have encountered a similar problem.  Nebraska unfortunately has two different systems for numbering counties.  The most common is the one that appears on auto license plates and is based on historical population.  The system of county numbering is one  that is used by some state departments and is alphabetical.  I initially used  the most common county numbering system when I entered data in my state return.  At one point the software just asks for the county number and provides only a picklist of numbers (with no county name for a reference).  At that point I had entered (02) from the Lancaster County license plate.  Upon reviewing my draft return in an attempt to problem solve my error loop related to the Property Tax Credit, I re-encountered this county number question (with only the numbered picklist).  So I thought, let's try the alphabetical number (55) instead.  And with that change the software error disappeared and the state efile worked.
